Tories break promise on lobbying
Let me refresh you. Quebec will NOT be voting LPC. The West will not be voting LPC, oh Vancouver Hastings will be all over the socialists and downtown Victoria, too. But nowhere else. Rural Ontario votes CPC. Dion can't speak English. 80% of Canadians do. Brown envelopes. Separatism. Isolation. I have no taste for the left whatsover. Are with me Vancouver-Kingsway? Biden, Dodd Drop Out after Iowa
While there will be plenty of speculation today about what last night's result in Iowa portend for the race, the parties, and the fate of the Republic, one thing is for certain: We won't have Joe Biden and Chris Dodd to kick around anymore. Delaware Sen Joe Biden and Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd abandoned their bids for the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night. "I count the past year of campaigning for the presidency as one of the most rewarding in a career of public service. Unfortunately, I am withdrawing from that campaign tonight," Dodd said in an e-mail message sent to supporters tonight. "But there is no reason to hang our heads this evening — only the opportunity to look towards a continuation of the work we started last January: ending the Iraq War, restoring the Constitution, and putting a Democrat in the White House.
Marriages by ministers ordained online in question
Some are interfaith couples, and others plan destination weddings with ceremonies in exotic resorts. And at the same time, there is growing discontent among those who think that online ordinations make a mockery of marriage."The problem with Internet ordinations," Cleaver says, "is that you don’t know who you are ordaining. You open the door for convicted pedophiles, rapists, even your garbage collector, to officiate at weddings."Cleaver called the York County ruling "appeal-proof," and without waiting to see whether the case would be overturned or affirmed on appeal, he issued an alarm. The sound reverberated in Bucks County, where Register of Wills Barbara G. Reilly held a news conference, urging couples who might be affected to remarry as soon as possible. The result? At least 45 couples applied for new marriage licenses.
Idahoans take icy plunge at Lucky Peak Reservoir
About three years ago, the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted his dream for a shopping spree."Since then we've established a relationship with them," said Alex's mother Jacki Collins. "Alex gives speeches for them. We try to give back one way or another."Alex told his sister Amanda, 16, that if she got $500 in pledges he would make the plunge with her. She got $1,500 and their brother Andrew, 17, decided to join in the plunge also.Their mother insisted the trio wear wet suits. "I want them to have a good time, but they need to be safe," she said. While Amanda and Alex looked at the water with trepidation as the plunge moment loomed closer, Andrew worked out a strategy for braving the frigid depths: "The faster you get in, the faster you get out."Cynthia Sewell: 377-6428 .
Power to the People
I am happy on one hand and sad on the other that we lost 20 years. When the state has the will and wants to do something, it can do it. We started our nuclear program at the same time as India," he says, pointing out that India today has 10 reactors on stream and four under construction — in addition to a stockpile of some 60 nuclear warheads. Abd-Elsalam says there's no backing down now, not even in the face of concerns over how the international community might view the venture. “All the statements show that this time, the decision is final," Abd-Elsalam says. “Even the general atmosphere shows it. You have the Supreme Energy Council convening for the first time in 18 years just [a few] days after the announcement. Every day, you read a piece of news on the issue in the press, and discussions are everywhere." At press time, the Supreme Council of Energy was expected to convene again after the Eid holidays for further discussions of the issue.
Annapolis man hangs himself in jail
A 37-year-old Annapolis man arrested on a probation violation hanged himself in an Anne Arundel County jail, officials said today. Monteray Arkell Hastey, of the first block of Washington Drive, was found around 11:30 a.m. Friday hanging from a bedsheet in his cell at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Annapolis, said Terry Kokolis, the facility administrator. Jail staff "initiated immediate CPR," Kokolis said, but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead about a half-hour later at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Kokolis said. .
Lessons for nation building by Mutumwa Mawere
And he dares talk about Gono and patronage. He, of all people? What business did he start here without Zanu-PF and Government guarantees and patronage? Let him not push his luck too far, this clever-for-nothing bitter charlatan. Tizvinyore. Ngaati pwee. Icho! He obviously sees me as an opponent which is expected from any civil servant that does not understand the role of the state. It is wrong for Charamba to see my criticism of the manner in which he is politicising the civil service as personal. I am sure that if the Public Service Commission still exists in Zimbabwe, the comments made by Charamba about Butau and other so-called fugitives would be of concern warranting disciplinary action. As long as Charamba is an organ of the state it cannot be acceptable that he thinks he is above the law.
