Compact FHM aims to pack more punch

Anthony Noguera was appointed as the FHM editor-in-chief just under a year ago in a bid to reverse the sales slump. He has hired a number of the magazine's former star writers and unveiled its latest revamp last August.

The travel-size edition will sell for the same price as its larger format, £3.80, and will contain FHM2, the "mag within a mag" introduced as part of last year's revamp.

Rob Munro-Hall, the managing director of Emap's Men's Lifestyle and Music Magazine Brands, said the new format was "yet another example of FHM leading and beating the rest of the men's magazine market into a new arena".

While the handbag format from Condé Nast's Glamour has been widely imitated in the women's market, men's magazines have been more resistant to change.

Italy 2008: holiday planning guide

Venice's newest five-star hotel, a stone's throw from the Cipriani on Giudecca, is now fully open. The Palladio Hotel and Spa (0039 041 520 7022, www.bauervenezia.com) occupies a 16th-century convent designed by Palladio and abandoned for a century until this restoration. Non-residents can book spa treatments and use the Turkish hammam.

For archaeology enthusiasts, two stellar excavations are opening to the public. In spring, tourists will be able to visit several patrician Roman villas with fine mosaic floors beneath Palazzo Valentini, across from the Forum. The adjacent museum is using virtual-reality technology to recreate life in a rich Roman household based on the finds made here.

In Rimini, the excavated site of a doctor's surgery - dating from 150AD - opened to visitors last month.

UPDATE 1-Inma Bank seeks $2.8 bln in largest Saudi IPO

Saudi Telecom also sold shares to government funds taking the total raised to $4.08 billion.

The Public Investment Fund and two state pension funds -- the General Organisation for Social Insurance (GOSI) and the Public Pension Agency -- will equally share the remaining 30 percent of the bank's 15 billion riyals capital.

The government announced plans to set up the bank in 2006 at the height of a stock market crash which had wiped off more than half of the capitalisation of the largest Arab bourse.

That announcement prompted many existing lenders, such as National Commercial Bank and Samba Financial Group 1090.SE, to increase their capital.

The state-owned National Commercial Bank, the largest Saudi bank by assets, announced plans in March to raise its capital from 9 billion to 15 billion riyals through a bonus share issue.

Private Sector: Americans Professionally astute, financially frail

Suddenly, after years of parental control, college exploration and late night employment deadlines, working adults reluctantly turn their attention to their personal finances, often with no real sense of where to go for help.

Working adults must assume far greater personal accountability for their own financial well-being, and nothing short of full commitment and engagement in their daily fiscal practices will suffice. They must take unbridled control of their finances by seeking education, paying persistent attention, establishing realistic financial goals and committing to achieve them.

CES Diary: Day 2

At least Slash of Guns and Roses guitarist knew to just shut up and play.

That's it?Anyone who has ever traveled down Shaikh Zayed Road in Dubai has seen the Panasonic advertisement for the 103-inch flat panel television. On Monday, Panasonic's Toshihiro Sakamoto announced that 3,000 of the monster screens were sold globally last year. Call my cynical, but that's it? All the hype and advertisement was so that Panasonic could sell 3,000 television sets?
