Blake Fielder-Civil self harms

Amy Winehouse's husband has been slashing his arms in prison because he is missing his wife.

Blake Fielder-Civil - who is currently in London's Pentonville Prison awaiting trial for grievous bodily harm (GBH) and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice - received medical treatment after he began self-harming because he is so lonely.

Blake's former cellmate Bill Gage wrote in his diary: "What Blake wants is not fame or a drug-fuelled mess of a life. He wants a happy life with his wife.

"He is missing her like crazy. He breaks down in tears - he is falling apart.

"After spending four days in solitary he went mad and had to be treated to cuts to his arm. He is doing his best to survive without Amy but admits it's the hardest thing he has ever done."

Blake is also alleged to be the target of drug dealers who he allegedly owes money.

No 7th term for Carson; seat stirs interest beyond Indiana

Democrats won control of both the House and Senate in the 2006 elections. There are now 233 Democrats and 200 Republicans in the House, with two vacancies left by the deaths of Republicans Paul Gillmor of Ohio and Jo Ann Davis of Virginia.

Open seats are generally hotly contested by both parties, but it remains to be seen how much effort Republicans would put into trying to claim Carsons district.

Far more Republicans than Democrats are retiring from the U.S. House 17 Republicans, with seven others possible, compared with only four Democrats and two Democratic maybes, including Carson.

David Wasserman, who analyzes House races for the Cook Political Report, said its hard to know how this race will shape up until it is certain that Carson will be able to finish her term.

Springer Said To Be Sprung In Air America Shuffle

John Mainelli reports in the New York Post that Jerry Springer is out at the liberal-leaning Air America radio network and that other Air America hosts will be shuffled. For Springer, it could be just as well since hes already got a full plate, hosting his TV Talk show and hoofing it on ABCs Dancing With The Stars.

Other moves include Air America morning co-host Rachel Maddow moving into Janeane Garofalos old night shift. Sam Seder, who used to co-host with Garofalo and currently does nights will take Springer mid-morning shift, while Al Franken and Randi Rhodes stay where they are.

Toy Guns and the Little Bang theory of violence

Pest control and family entertainment, not shoot-'em-ups in the back yard.

Though Montgomery Ward did make pretend brigade guns for children, they were paired with miniature drums and ceremonial swords. They appealed to make-believe military parading and patriotism, wrote Cross in his book "Kids Stuff: Toys and the Changing World of American Childhood."

"Toy guns in this era were about history and an introduction to manhood," he said in an interview. "They weren't about combat."

Then in 1934, movie cowboy Buck Jones endorsed air rifles for boys who wanted to play Daniel Boone. Toymaker Hubley promoted "cowboys and Injuns" games with its "hard-riding, sure-shooting" Dandy, and marketed the Winner to "kids who idolize the G-men."

Those Al Capone-type references hit close to home, and incited the first wave of organized toy gun protests, led by that spitfire Rose Simone.
