Google algorithm tweak spooks sites
In the brave new world of online media, fortunes can be won and lost on the whim of Google's key search algorithm. And when, without warning, Google tweaked that mathematical formula this week, there was panic on the world wide web. Swarms of bloggers and webmasters of major sites like Washingtonpost.com, Forbes.com, Engadget.com and SFGate.com noticed a downgrading in their PageRank, Google's measure of a web page's value. A site's PageRank impacts not only its ranking in Google search results but also the price it can charge advertisers. A drop in ranking can have serious financial consequences, especially for smaller operators. The search giant, through its dominant search engine and AdWords/AdSense network, is relied on by millions of websites not only for traffic referrals but for monetisation as well.
Three-day drug spree AFTER death drive
If they want to have non custodial treatment they need to show something back. Attend weekly blood testing. Or even more radicaly! the tories of all people in the 80's allowed 2 gps on an estate in tyneside to prescribe heroin. The resultant effect was breakins dropped 96% and the only crime reported was drink related violent behaviour. Tough choices need to be made on drugs issue. Denialist approaches are not working anymore. If you said to a heroin user (perfectly compus mentus on a 'reasonable non jitter dose') Attend this work project 30 hours a week or help in the community if you can't find a job? I am sure a hell of a lot would rather that than a life of being pimped, breaking into houses and ducking and diving etc Or is that too commonsensed ? understanding that every age of man has had addicts? Look at the 19th century? .
Dome to be rock’s new hall of fame
It eventually agreed to give it to Philip Anschutz, an American billionaire, for a share of future profits. It later emerged that John Prescott, the deputy prime minister at the time, had stayed as a guest on Anschutz’s Colorado ranch, while the US mogul’s company, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), was seeking a licence for a Las Vegas-style supercasino at the dome. AEG was prepared to spend £350m to build an arena, 11-screen cinema and exhibition space, but insisted that a casino would be required to unlock a similar amount of investment. Despite being denied a gaming licence, the rebranded O2, in which News Corporation, the parent company of The Sunday Times, has a 10% stake, opened on time in June last year. David Campbell, the European head of AEG, admitted this weekend that the venture was a "big gamble" that seems to have paid off, although no profits have been paid back to the government yet.
